the collection
Perusal of the collection reveals not only the full diversity and richness of the artistic medium that is photography, but also the photographic concerns of young artists over the past three decades. In particular, it bears witness to the variety of artistic approaches explored during these residencies, all carried out under almost identical conditions of experimentation and spontaneity. Of course, technical developments in photography over this period are also inevitably reflected.
The collection has been enriched by the donation of 126 works by 86 photographers from the gellery L’Œil Écoute in Limoges when it ceased its activity, as well as various purchases and other donations from artists.

donation by the association of the gallery l'Œil écoute
“For nearly thirty years, the association L’Œil Écoute based in Limoges, worked for the dissemination of art photography through active programming within its eponymous gallery located in the town centre. Yves Lapeyre, director of the gallery and one of the four founding members of the association, continually invited great photographers as well as lesser known and promising artists and supported them by buying examples of their works, thus constituting a considerable collection, comprising more than 120 works by some 80 artists. At the same time, the association also set up and ran the Rencontres Photographiques de Solignac during three decades, a notable festival among the calendar of national photographic events. We had started to forge links between our two structures as it was common to see the same names of photographers featured in our respective programmes.
When last February Yves Couturier, President of L’Œil Écoute, contacted me to inform me of the dissolution of the association and its members’ decision to designate the association Pour l'Instant as recipient of its collection, I was dismayed to learn of the disappearance of an appreciated cultural actor and at the same time surprised and honoured by this devolution, announced as recognition of our place in the panorama of actors in the field of photography in the New Aquitaine region. There are nearly 120 photographs from the L’Œil Écoute collection that we are presenting here. You will find great names among them and discover great talents”.
Sylviane Van de Moortele, November 2017, President from 1994 to 2019 of the association Pour l’Instant, Villa Pérochon.
